I have been very fortunate and seen a bunch of enormous shows over the years and when I go back to them, mostly they still are. Some examples:
UCLA - 11/17/73
Hollywood Bowl - 7/21/74
Winterland retirements - 10/18 (Star) and 10/19 (Eyes)
Orpheum - 7/18/76
LA Shrine - 10/15/76
Forum - 6/4/77 (totally agree with Dudley Dead)
Winterland - 6/9/77
Winterland - 10/21/78 From Egypt With Love
Closing Winterland

Like others, I'm in the 70s camp with not enough time to listen to all the shows I love. so I can't speak for the 80s. I'm sure others can point to examples that they know of. I remember that the wonderfulness of the live experience carried me past what I later came to believe, as many did, was the decline. I wasn't as picky as I came to be I guess - when they came around, I was there and I had a good time. Can't speak to the revival times because I bagged out and moved to Hawaii in 89.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was at this show too, but I can't remember shit, so it'll be a surprise. Which I guess is normal for a Dead show. Why else would folks take notes. :)

BTW - I saw Bob Marley in the same fricken place two days earlier. This is why I have bad ears.

Hey DH--we were at a bunch of Bay Area shows together...just realized that (I thought you were in LA only; did you drive up? Any in 75?).

And I never said hello. :)

Yes I drove up from LA in 74. A spontaneous, desperate attempt by my friends and me to see them one more time before they quit the biz. June 77 was part of a grand tour of the West I was taking with my bike. And in 78-79, I was actually living in Palo Alto and Oakland. You know, the only thing I've ever won in my life was the Bill Graham lottery for the closing of Winterland. Who would have thunk?

I can't remember if I was even aware of the 75 shows at the time. In my mind, the band was dead. So to speak. You were fortunate to see those.
